Members will wish to note that today EU directive 2017/853 was published in the EU journal. It comes into effect on June 13th. The process of implementation should be completed on September 13th, 2018.

Several EC regulations are still to be written, like the marking requirements, the rules for alarmguns and the new version of the deactivation regulation.

The coming 15 months will therefore be critical. Further relevant information will be posted as appropriate.

Meanwhile members will note that collectors and antiques are dealt with in paragraphs 17 and 27 of the preamble. There is much mention of member states laws and in part III of Annex I antiques are declared exempt from the definition of "firearm"
