Home Office Firearms Fees Consultation

The Fee changes shown in the link are largely inflation geared since 2001 when the last increase took place. They are considerably less than the alternatives proposed, and there are actually reductions in some cases (thus reflecting forthcoming further computerisation). There is merit in getting these through as they are now, rather than let the subject open up again, perhaps under a new Government.

We are therefore glad to confirm that the HBSA, along with other shooting organisations, supports these proposed fee changes.

We also recommend to our members that they support the proposals for fees as presented at the following link to the consultation paper and survey

https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/a-proposal-to-increase-firearms-licensing-fees-administered-by-the-police.

We have also further suggested that, every two or three years (to avoid annual change), inflationary increases are applied (based on CPI).

We will make other broader suggestions during the Law Commission review of Firearms Law
