Hunters Rest – a display of classic and historic sporting rifles and shotguns. Saturday 29th March 2014

posted 15 Mar 2014, 01:17 by The Historical Breechloading Smallarms Association
There will be a display of sporting shotguns and rifles in the Herts & Essex Shooting Association clubhouse, covering muzzle-loading, early breechloaders, and centre fire cartridge firearms on Saturday 29th May 11.00am – 3.00pm. This is timed to coincide with the Field Firing Match being held that day – an Open competition based on military training courses of instruction – details from HBSA website,

We hope to have all calibres and sizes, from small-bore, rook and rabbit rifles up to puntguns. Whilst a pair of Purdy’s or Holland double rifle would be nice to show, the work of the jobbing gunsmith and the Birmingham Trade will be represented, since these were the meat and drink of the shooter, and not just the “London Best”

We will have such as a wheel-lock rifle, flint and percussion chamois rifles, classic Mausers, and Mannlicher sporters and Lee-Speeds on display, as well as a variety of rook and rabbit rifle actions and mechanisms. Plus shotguns of different types, makes and mechanisms.

The exhibition is running 11.00am to 3.00pm and is open to HESA, HBSA, BASC members and their guests, and other shooters, as well as Field Firing Match competitors.

The competition and exhibition are in the HESA range and clubhouse, Great Leighs, midway between Braintree and Chelmsford. There is dual carriageway from the M11 (Stansted turning), so access is quite straightforward.
