News regarding IWM research facilities

I have just received the following news from the DG of IWM, which is most welcome.

Derek Stimpson

"I am writing to update you on the strategic change programme at IWM and in particular, about the provision of research facilities at IWM London.

Over the past months, IWM has continued to review the necessary cost saving measures needed across the museum as well as continuing to consult on some of the proposals for change communicated earlier this year, including those to introduce nominal charges for use of the research room service at IWM London.

As a result of these continued conversations and efforts to make cost-savings and efficiencies, we are pleased to confirm that we will no longer be introducing the proposed nominal charges for the use of the research room.

The research room will operate 4 days a week (Monday - Thursday) with morning and afternoon sessions and, as before, sessions must be booked in advance. IWM will also introduce a digital photo permit for a set fee to assist researchers in response to the positive and supportive feedback we have received.
IWM will also be looking to introduce a voluntary donation scheme in the future to encourage those who use IWM’s research services for profit-making output (such as films, television scripts and books) to contribute and help IWM to ensure that the research room and associated expertise remains free for everyone."
