Offensive Weapons Bill - 16 October update

As members may have read the Report stage of the Bill and debate has been delayed, due to lack of time yesterday, possibly until next week. There are a number of MPs in support of the move to delete the high energy rifle ban and allow increased security instead. However this is only one element of the Bill and we are fighting various other amendments which if allowed will restrict shooting and collecting severely.

Prime Minister Trudeau has asked the Honourable Bill Blair, Minister of Border Security and Organized Crime Reduction, to lead an examination of a ban on handguns and "assault weapons" in Canada, while not impeding the lawful use of firearms by Canadians.

Consultations have begun and will close on 10th November.

We shall keep members informed as best as possible.
