The Value of Shooting - How much is shooting worth to the UK?

posted 7 Jul 2014, 15:54 by Tony Cattermole   [ updated 7 Jul 2014, 15:54 ]

Countryfile this last Sunday evening (6 July) on BBC1 at 6.10pm. covered the findings of The Value of Shooting report. This is the latest and most extensive research ever carried out into the economic, environmental and social contribution of shooting to the UK . Whilst it tends to concentrate on game shooting, it has relevance to shooting as a whole. It is, generally speaking, moderately well balanced, particularly if, like me, you have a rather jaundiced view of the BBC and its covering of shooting sports and firearms. Coverage is in two parts, about 8 minutes into the programme and about 30 minutes.

The broadcast, can be viewed until Friday on BBC iPlayer here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b049bfvm  until the end of this week.

After the programme you can find more details on the Value of Shooting report on the BASC website: www.basc.org.uk

This report was also noted in a letter published in the Times on 7th July

Secondly, we had a most successful IAHM arms fair at Bisley over the weekend, and managed to not only catch-up on our interviews for recent applicants, but also sign-up and interview new members. Congratulations to David Frohnwieser, Stuart Taylor and Maurice Kanareck in particular.
